Ever wonder what's odd, fun, and inventive about Staunton, Virginia? Come find out at our first Odd Thursdays event, THIS Thursday at George Bowers Grocery. Meet fellow creative types, dine on the patio, and enjoy an evening outdoors -- we'd love to see you there! — Staunton Creative Community Fund.

CHEESE TO YOU: SCHEDULE CHANGE

Meg Hall is the Valley's premier (yet snob-free) cheesemonger. You know her as the friendly and expert owner of Cheese to You. Meg's been a weekly fixture at George Bowers for over a year.

Meg will no longer be able to join us on Saturdays. - BUT! - We are HAPPY to report we're planning some  über-special events with Meg and her artisan cheese just for you. Stay tuned.

BREAD BOX?

The humble bread box evolved somewhere in the swamps. Specifically, between the "baking your own bread" inlet and the "buying bread in plastic bags" lagoon of consumer evolution. Did you grow up with one?

This one belonged to Katie's grandmother. We don't keep bread in it. We keep reciepts. That's because it takes a different kind of "bread" to operate an independent retailer.

Thank you for supporting us. Keep fighting the good fight against Generica's faux-mosphere!

WOW! Who Would Have Thought?

GROCERS' NOTE

WOW. Turns out that Staunton has a fair share of mobile professionals: telecommuters, freelancers, and solopreneurs. If you're part of this you know that your "office" can be anywhere. Starting Wednesday, 6/1, we're hosting a weekly event—shorthand: WOW!—just for you. We're calling it "Window Office Wednesday" and you can find more details here

Learn a tomato-based productivity secret the debut week!

MUSIC DEBUT

Saturday evening is the debut of acoustic music on the patio. This kick-off music event will feature our beloved renaissance man and uncle, lawyer/beekeeper/artist David McCaskey.

2nd Birthday Celebrations Friday & Saturday!

Seems like just yesterday it was 2008....

The markets were tanking and some "damn fools" decide to open a neighborhood grocery. Well, as they say, there's never a perfect time for a baby, and, never a perfect time to start a business.

Thanks to you, we're here and growing! THANK YOU!

We'd like you to join us for two fun events:

Friday, Nov. 19, 5-8pm:
Pizza and craft beer, on the house! We'll be sharing some of our favorite craft brews and hot slices of Shenandoah Pizza

Saturday, Nov. 20, 1-3pm:
Ice cream floats with sugar-sweetened Abita Root Beer, with ice cream from Split Banana.

PLUS-> Meg Hall of Cheese to You will be here Saturday with artisan cheese. Now through the holiday season she'll be here EVERY SATURDAY so you can choose the finest cheese for your own celebrations.

See you soon.

No? Nooooo?
Don't make us put you down for a nap, George.
